Rob's Photography Philosophy
Through the lens of my camera, I strive to capture moments that inspire me, whether it be in the form of a natural landscape, an architectural structure, or a striking object or person. My work as a fine art photographer is guided by the idea that every image tells a story, revealing not just the physical appearance but also the essence of my subject scene. Likewise, in the studio, I meticulously craft the lighting and surroundings to create a perfect setting for my models or objects, each chosen for their unique features and visual appeal.
What draws me to a particular natural scene is simply what my mind's eye sees in that moment, sparking my creativity and leading me to capture the beauty and emotion within. I draw inspiration from the unfolding moments around me, seeking to freeze time and emotion in my photographs.
In the digital realm, I take Ansel Adams' words to heart as I believe that true photographic artistry comes not just from capturing a moment, but from the process of transforming that moment into a final image. Through digital enhancement, I breathe life into my photographs, creating unique and compelling works of art that reflect my vision and passion for photography.
Artist Biography
Hailing from the beautiful peninsulas of Michigan, Rob Romig-Fox stands out in the contemporary art scene with his striking photographic compositions. A journey that began with a first photography class in 2016, Rob's artistic career is marked by its organic development and an ever-evolving eye for the world around him.
Rob is no stranger to the presence of art in his family. His brother, a watercolorist, perhaps ignited the underlying artistic lineage within him. Rob’s formal education began at Eastern Michigan University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences. Despite investing his initial years following graduation in various management positions for national and international organizations, his curiosity for the art world remained undimmed.
Rob eventually returned to pursue his passion, enrolling at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Here, he undertook a photography technology degree and digital imaging certificate, setting the foundation for his photographic journey.
The uniqueness of Rob's work lies in the absence of a designated subject matter. Instead, it waits for 'the moment', weaving together compositions from the world that unfolds around him. His creative process heavily involves delving deep into his Imaginarium during the actual processing of his photographs, and this is where the magic truly begins.
Over the years, Rob has perfected his technique in a distinct way that took shape organically, and he believes that his knack for image composition sets him apart from other artists. His portfolio is abundant with a diverse range of projects, with his studio portrait work, macro photography work, and most recently, AI-enhanced digital photography work offering a glimpse into his artistic versatility.
The influence of Ansel Adams, Yousuh Karsh, Joyce Tenneson, Edward Weston, Edward Curtis, Imogen Cunningham, and Dorothea Lange looms large on his artistic sensibilities, fueling his creative passion and adding depth to his work. Over the years, his distinct style has been showcased in various galleries, including the London Photo Show in England, and the “In Transit Exhibition” at Gallery 117: Ann Arbor Art Center in his hometown.
The echoing applause that often surrounds Rob’s work is a testament to his unique style. Out of his prolific portfolio, his studio portrait, macro photography and AI-enhanced digital photography projects are frequently hailed for their singularity. His non-artistic pursuits, such as family genealogy, hiking and camping, also bear testament to an individual deeply in tune with both his roots and his surroundings.
Ambitious as he is skilled, Rob aims for international recognition, desiring to leave an indelible mark on the world with his unique photographic style and works. His art not only reflects his talent and keen eye for detail, but also his deep-rooted belief in the power of the moment. With his camera in hand and the world as his canvas, there's no doubt that this talented artist from Michigan will continue to capture and craft images that challenge, inspire, and provoke thought.
